Prince Alexis P. Scherbatow Scholarship

The Russian Nobility Association in America (“RNAA”) awards scholarships to qualified graduate students, undergraduate students and high school graduates entering college, through the Prince Alexis P. Scherbatow Scholarship Fund (“SSF”).

The SSF is supported through:

  • (a) contributions from members and friends of the RNAA
  • (b) a portion of the profits from our social activities, including our Annual Ball
  • (c) proceeds from the RNAA lecture series, and (d) income from the SSF endowment.

Scholarship recipients are selected based on a combination of their academic record, financial need, and interest in Russian history, culture, literature, etc., consistent with the RNAA’s mission and objectives. Applicants are supported with annual stipends until their graduation, so long as they maintain minimum grades and their course of study. The applicant need not be a member of the RNAA, but must be attending an accredited college or university as an undergraduate or graduate student. The scholarship will initially be $2,500 per year per student.

To be considered for a scholarship, the applicant needs to submit a properly completed application to the RNAA by May 1, for consideration for the school year subsequently beginning in August / September.

We are pleased to be able to assist students with a strong interest in historic Russia and its people, culture, etc., by contributing toward the cost of their education. We are also most grateful to those whose donations have made and continue to make this possible.

Scherbatow had served for thirty-one years as President of the Russian Nobility Association in America. He taught history and political science, earned a PhD from Columbia University, and worked for The Tolstoy Foundation, aiding Russian immigrants. Prince Alexis Pavlovich Scherbatow received many honors and tributes from Russian, European and American organizations for his contributions to historical studies.
