The Junior Committee of the Russian Nobility Association’s annual Spring Ball organized a Maslenitsa party on February 19th. The event was a great success!
The party was well attended, and included Junior Committee members, friends, regular attendees of RNA events, and a few new faces. The event was held at Duet Brasserie, a downtown French-American bistro whose owner-chef is Russian. We made use of the cozy second floor of the venue that overlooks historic Barrow Street. Authentic Maslenitsa zakouski were served, including blini with both red and black caviar, vinigret salad, seafood dishes, and other treats served with sour cream. Drinks included red wine, white wine, vodka, and juices.
Once the guests were assembled, an announcement was made about the upcoming activities of the RNA, and everyone was encouraged to attend the upcoming lecture (Tolstoy and Shakespeare: A Theatrical Feud Featuring George Bernard Shaw) and urging guests to save the date for the Ball.
“Shyps and Roses,” a duo of professional singers, one of whom is a member of the Synodal choir, sang a few Maslenitsa carols and Russian folk songs. The audience was captivated by the performance and thoroughly enthused about RNA activities. We received many new entries in our guest book and all agreed that it was a truly festive evening!
