The Board of the Russian Nobility Association in America is profoundly saddened by news of the passing of the First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, Metropolitan Hilarion (Kapral), who reposed in the Lord on Monday, May 16th, 2022 after a lengthy illness.
Metropolitan Hilarion was a wise and gentle man who had a tremendous spiritual impact on the many people he came in contact with during his lifetime of service to the church. He was consecrated a bishop on December 10, 1984 and served in many roles in the Eastern American Diocese, including as Bishop of Washington and deputy Secretary of the Synod of Bishops. He served as the Ruling Bishop of the Diocese of Sydney, Australia and New Zealand. In 2008, His Eminence was elected First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad.
Metropolitan Hilarion was interred in the monastic cemetery at Holy Trinity Monastery in Jordanville, NY on May 22, 2022.
